About

Social Tech is a group of web professionals in Australia who work at non-profit organisations. As the group’s name suggests, we all work in the social change sector in technology-related roles.

In non-profit organisations, the web manager often works alone, with little support, and a tiny budget. Social Tech provides a networking opportunity for people in this position, enabling us all to be both a mentor/coach and a mentee with others in the group. It’s invaluable particularly to people who find there is nobody in a similar role in their organisation.

Who can join?

Any employees or in-house contractors who work in a social change non-profit is welcome to join Social Tech.

There aren’t any membership fees or formalities, all that we ask is that you observe the Chatham House Rule.

The Chatham House Rule means that any discussion you are privy to is absolutely confidential outside of the meeting. The nature of some of the information we share can be quite sensitive at times and people who attend expect that information they share will be treated as confidential. Essentially we want to ensure that Social Tech is a safe space for people to share their experiences.

Meetings

We meet regularly at The Rose in Chippendale, Sydney (and we’ll soon have meetings in Melbourne too). We also have a Facebook group. If you don’t live in Melbourne or Sydney please join us on Facebook anyway … we might be able to put you in contact with other people in your area.
